SCAS admits a membership class each fall and spring. Members make up the body of the council — the weekly meetings, the service days and the events the college sees.

What you actually get.
Membership is not a mailing list. Members attend the council's weekly meetings, staff its events and service days, and sit inside the one student body that spans every department of the college.
- 01 Weekly meetings. Guest speakers and professional development workshops through the semester.
- 02 Events and service. Three events a semester — a career panel, an industry night and the ArtSci Carnival — plus service throughout the semester.
- 03 Range. You work alongside people whose degree looks nothing like yours — the college spans the former Liberal Arts, Geosciences and Science departments.
- 04 A route into leadership. The cabinet — seven executives and eight officers — is recruited by application each fall and spring.
02 — The process

Intake runs by application and interview, in the fall and in the spring.

Applications are open
The fall application is live now and closes at 11:59pm on 12 September. Open the form — and if you would rather meet us first, come by any of the tabling stops or an informational before you submit.

Submit yours
It asks about your major and year, and what you are hoping to get out of the council. Positions are limited, so specifics help.

Interview
A short conversation with members of the council about your interests and what you would like to work on.
04
Join the member class
You are onboarded with the rest of your class and start attending weekly meetings, events and service days.
03 — Who can apply
Wider than people assume.
Undergraduate, graduate, professional and Blinn Team students are all eligible. You do not need prior student-government experience, and we actively want majors that are under-represented on the council.

The ones we get every semester.
Do I have to be a member to come to SCAS events?
No. Every event we run is open to any student in the College of Arts & Sciences, and most are open to the whole university. Membership is about running the council, not using it.
Is my major represented?
If your degree sits in the College of Arts & Sciences — anything that came from the former Liberal Arts, Geosciences or Science colleges — then yes. If you are not sure, email us and we will tell you straight.
What's the actual time commitment?
Weekly meetings, plus the events and service days you sign up for. It is heavier in the weeks around a major event and lighter otherwise.
Are there dues?
Yes, and the current amount is confirmed during the application cycle. If dues are a barrier, tell the VP of Finance — that conversation stays between you and them.
I missed the application window. Now what?
Email us and ask to be told when the next cycle opens. Applications run again the following semester.
I don't want to join. I just have a problem with the college.
